History
Early Days
The Real Rubyrulez was originally slated to be called "The IRC Show or A Day in the Life of Ruby." It would follow a similar premise to Forum Stage, following after the crazy mis-adventures of Ruby, Munchy, and several other IRC members. This idea was shot down, however, due to unpopularity.
Rubyrulez went back to the drawing board, and decided to create TRR, and instead of basing his characters on real life people (except for himself), imagined fake characters. TRR was completely done using MSPaint and Windows Movie Maker, which Ruby would later learn (the hard way) was a mistake. After TRR1 was released in June of 2005, however, Ruby faced heavy flaming. After the release of TRR2, Ruby decided to slow it up for a while.
The release of TRR3, however, was welcomed a bit more than episodes 1-2, though there was still a lot of flaming. There were those, however, who enjoyed TRR because of its writing, and not because of the animation. Thus, the philosophy for Crappy Animation Studios was born!
Ruby Discovers Flash
After TRR3 was released, it was suggested to Ruby that he try a change, over to animating directly in flash. He did so, and spawned TRR4, the first episode animated completely in flash. It was later on when he stumbled on the Voice Actors Club, after hearing Kagome's performance in Bonus Stage. He cast Kagome, Maynz, Saqr and Luminafire for roles in TRR, and rerelased Episode 4, as well as several others.
TRR Now
Today, TRR now has 16 episodes, and has entered its second season with a bang, powered by talented voice acting, as well as excellent character designs by YesIAmAnIdiot. TRR slowly picks up steam, and is nowhere near slowing down.
TRR11 recieved critical acclaim after a full season of poorly animated episodes. YesIAmAnIdiot's designs and theme were extremely well recieved, and the script was as well. With this momentum, Ruby hopes to hang on to the newfound fandom going forward (especially with the movie.) Episode 11 was also the first TRR episode to really become "Podcast-worthy," and was discussed in Episode 12 of the Porplemontage Studios Podcast (though that podcast episode became the "non-canon" episode.)
Every once and a while, TRR will release a long episode. Usually, there are big delays between episodes, so Ruby will release a short toon (usually without voices) every once in a while to tide people over until the next long episode actually comes out. So far, 4 of these shorts have been released, with a lot more coming for Season 2.
The Future Looks Bright
TRR's future definitely looks bright, and Ruby has a lot of things planned. First and foremost is the TRR movie, which he hopes to have fully completed by 2007. The movie will be a Direct-To-DVD film, around (he hopes) 40-50 minutes, with Bonus Features. It will probably go for $8.99.
Also, TRR Season DVD's are in the works, but nothing has been decided yet, mostly because there is still a lot of planning to do. These DVD's will probably be priced at $6.99 each.
TRR Episodes 1-3 (the ones made in Movie Maker) will be redone completely, including all new scripts, using the newer designs from Season 2. There are also plans to redo 4-10 in this style, but if those wind up not going forward, 1-3 will be redone with the designs from Ep 8-10.
Sexy Birthday Updates
In celebration of Ruby's 20th Birthday, he has promised a week of all new updates (of which he has already broken the schedule.) These updates include a five-part comic crossover with Friends in a Can, and will be capped off with the release of the TRR01 remake.
Podcast Influence
Recently, after the discussion of TRR11 and the short TRR12 preview, some comments on the podcast have aided in minor changes. They are:
- Change to the Cold Opening for TRR12
There are sure to be more in the future.
