{The KRAP News logo appears on the screen.}
Announcer: We now return to KRAP News at Eleven.
{Cut to the newsroom with Rex Stangle at the desk.}
Rex: Well, Halloween is coming up, and with it, the usual wave of trick-or-treaters staying inside because their parents are scared to death of tainted candy and Michael Jackson. For those of you who do plan on going somewhere Halloween night, the usual warnings apply: be sure to wear brightly colored costumes...
{A sketch of a person wearing a large Jack-o-lantern costume on the left, and a green glowstick on the right, fades in.}
Rex: ...or carry glowsticks... raver costumes are generally a good idea.
{The sketch fades out.}
Rex: Also, be on the lookout for anyone between 13 and 21 not accompanied by a younger sibling. They're usualy up to no good and should probably be reported...
{The screen goes white. A small carton of eggs and a pair of shuriken appear when they are mentioned.}
Rex: ...especially if they're carrying eggs or Chinese throwing stars.
{The screen fades out.}
Rex: Also, just as a general reminder...
{The screen fades to an image of an old house with a dead tree in front of it. A boy wearing a Coach Z costume (a backwards, blue-and-purple baseball cap, a green shirt, and a "Z" insignia) and carrying a pumpkin-shaped bucket walks in.}
Rex: If you approach a broken-down looking house and eerie, foreboding music starts playing out of nowhere...
{The boy looks up, and his hand holding the bucket starts shaking.}
Rex: ...it's probably a good idea to leave the property and move on to the next house.
{The boy quickly turns and walks offscreen. The studio fades back in.}
Rex: And that's all for tonight. For KRAP News, I'm Rex Stangle, saying... a-boogidy-boogidy.
Easter Egg
Click on "KRAP" to see the original ending: The flashing image of a statue of a fanged creature appears on the screen, accompanied by a loud screech.
Explanations
- This cartoon was originally a screamer: a Flash video that interrupts with a frightening image accompanied by a screaming noise of some kind. Typically screamers do not also function as fully-fledged cartoons by themselves, as this one does. However, Puckett was ad-libbing Rex's monologue and decided not to cut it short. In the original version, the picture and scream in the Easter egg cut in after the line "I'm Rex Stangle..." and was followed by a message saying the viewer had just been "PRANKIFIED."
- The image that accompanies the scream is a statue of a Hindu god, taken from this webpage. The original image was an animated GIF that flashed just as it does in the cartoon.
- The mention of "tainted candy" refers to the urban legend of people randomly poisoning, or putting razor blades into, the candy they hand out to trick-or-treaters.
Real-World References
- Michael Jackson is a pop singer who was once arrested on charges of child molestation. He was acquitted of these charges, but the publicity branded him as the butt of pedophilia jokes.
- The trick-or-treater is dressed as Coach Z, a character from the Internet cartoon Homestar Runner.
- Ravers are people who attend parties known as raves. Their mention in the cartoon is more in reference to the raver stereotype, usually depicted in drawings as wearing glowsticks attached to their clothes.
